- The Daily Mile
We have really enjoyed running the Christ Church Circuit today to join the international Daily Mile event, further details below. Keeping active and enjoying the outdoors are proven to improve and support not only our physical health but also mental health and well-being. Throughout the weeks ahead we will be out and about utilising our school grounds and beyond, now we are able to plan school trips. Now the mornings are lighter and the weather improving please consider whether you could walk to school or park and stride, if you do not already, to lessen the traffic and in turn improve the environment and safety around our school.
Thank you to parents/carers for completing the Google form to request a telephone call/Google meet with the class teachers. These will happen as detailed in the Google form. Please look out on Google classroom for an invite to the Google meetings if you requested this. Telephone calls will happen on the dates offered by each individual teacher.
These pictures are a sneak peak at our work through the school using ‘What we will build,’ by Oliver Jeffers - more to follow.

Mile of Pennies
Stay tuned for more details on this event, and start putting aside spare pennies you might have around the house!
Reception have had another 'roar-some' week enjoying our dinosaur topic! We began by reading the story 'How to look after your dinosaur' by Jason Cockcroft which inspired us to draw our own dinosaurs and write how we would care for them. We thought about the diets of different dinosaurs and created 'dinosaur poo' using salt dough and adding sticks, leaves and pasta (representing bones) to show whether our dinosaurs were herbivores, omnivores or carnivores. The dinosaur fun continued and Reception have practiced their fine motor skills, cutting dinosaur shapes and securing them together with split pins. We created playdough dinosaurs too! Additionally the children have loved playing outside in the Spring sunshine and exploring the playground.
This week The Maths certificates were awarded to Molly in RRP for ordering numbers 11 to 20 so quickly and accurately and Zhi Jun for enthusiastically engaging in learning about the numbers 11-20. Well done both!
Year 1 Forest School and Orion and the Dark
Year 1 had a wonderful forest school session last Friday. We listened out for birdsong in the outdoor classroom and we were amazed at how many different birds we could hear. We learned to identify a variety of birds and worked with our partners to see if we could spot any in the playground and up in the trees. We then worked together in small teams to build nests that could protect eggs. We learned so much about birds and had so much fun!
This term Year 1’s Power of Reading story Orion and the Dark is all about a boy, Orion, who is scared of many different things, including tartan and his gran! This week we have been exploring the story by discussing our own worries and fears, role playing as characters from the story and writing thought bubbles for the characters.
Year 2 Exploring 'Rapunzel' and Measuring
This week Year 2 continued our topic of 'Measurement' as we measured the length of objects in cm and m.
We gathered a penguin, a fishing net, a lantern and a globe and used rulers and metre sticks to read their length. Then, we ordered their height from shortest to tallest. We enjoyed working in teams.
Also, we measured the height of our classmates and recorded our readings using chalk and metre sticks.
It felt great to learn outdoors!
In Literacy, we have been busy writing about the character of 'Rapunzel'. We created a 'role on the wall' to think of lots of exciting adjectives to describe 'Rapunzel'. We were intrigued to discover that this book has a clever twist at the end which is different than the original 'Rapunzel' fairy tale. Stay tuned for more creative activities as we delve deeper into this beautiful book this term.
Well done for your terrific efforts and enthusiasm for learning this week Year 2!
Year 3 Wild Robot Persuasive Advert
This week, Year 3 have been reading about Roz the robot having an unfortunate altercation with some bears and losing her foot! The children designed a new, all-natural prosthetic foot for Roz and wrote some fabulous adverts to sell the top-quality product. They used lots of persuasive language, slogans, catchy phrases and rhetorical questions. Brilliant!
We also learnt in the story that Roz’s adopted son, Brightbill had become a teenager and decided to run away. The children performed a roleplay of the argument from both sides. They really got into character!
We read a very amusing poem in guided reading this week – it made us cry with laughter! It’s called the Indigo Flamingo, by Nick Lake
Over the past two weeks, Year 4 have been learning all about Hinduism in their RE lessons. Our key question was, ‘What does it mean to be a Hindu in Britain today?’. Today, our learning culminated by redesigning the Union flag taking into account the diversity in Britain today. Look at the amazingly vibrant designs the children came up with.
Year 5 Hour of code and Giacometti sculptures
This week in Year 5 the children have had a wonderful week flexing their technological and creative skills in a number of ways! Firstly, they have had the fantastic opportunity each morning to join a live coding training session which has given them tips and skills on how to create succinct systematic codes to advance through levels in a well known online game, create their own game using makecodearcade and finally they focused on creating an app on applab.org.
Within Art the children used their sketches from last week, along with their understanding of Giacometti’s artistic style, to create foil statues of sporting athletes. Delicate manipulation along with firm fingers were needed to ensure the shaping was formed but without ripping the foil. Concentration along with patience was displayed by all, well done!
As well as this, the children have been busy collaborating with one another in order to create our Year 5 virtual assembly which will be filmed and shared with you next week. Watch this space!
Year 6 Animations and African masks
Year 6 are very proud of their assessment piece of writing which they have drafted, edited and published. It was based on the short animation ‘Broken: Rock Paper Scissors’ and the children told a riveting re-count of the fight scene.
They have also begun to explore the circulatory and respiratory system which will feed into their project homework for the term (details on Google Classroom.)
There has also been some amazing investigative work during Maths with application of knowledge from our Area and Perimeter unit onto some tricky conceptual problems.
For Art we have been exploring African cultures through traditional masks. Here we are getting to grips with creating paper masks - showing symmetry and precision which represent dignity and unity. What this space: clay masks up next!!!
