Yr 6 Boat building

20th June 2019
Year 6 spent Thursday sampling the delights of al the wonderful things that maritime Bristol has to offer. Starting with a walk around Cumberland basin and the floating harbour they learnt about the history of the dockside area and imagined themselves back in the 1800 s to think how the docks had changed.

Next stop was the Underfall yard where we were luck enough to meet Salvatore whose £1 million boat was being repaired on the historic wooden slipway. We also met the builders of the historic Bristol Channel pilot cutters who talked to us about how they made these historic boats. Onto the Bristol Ferry Boat for an informative and exciting tour around the docks soaking up more local history. We finished the day with a workshop at the Engine Shed where we collaborated to build some beautiful boats that we will be racing in the harbour festival
