Yr 1 Science

12th December 2018
Year 1 have been sorting everyday objects according to their properties. We focused on whether they were rough, smooth, shiny, dull, soft, hard, bendy, flexible, waterproof and/or absorbent.

On the teacher table we conducted an experiment into what the best material would be for the Jolly Postman’s new outfit. We discussed what properties were most important and used water to test paper, tissue, cotton fabric and plastic for being waterproof.

These are some of the findings:
‘The water went through the newspaper and it absorbed’
‘The cotton was not waterproof’
‘Waterproof means that water doesn’t get through’
‘The tissue is absorbent’
‘The water went through’
‘Plastic is waterproof’
