World Book Day
1st March 2017
World Book Day At Christ Church Primary School
The excitement about dressing up started last week, with conversations about what characters the children were coming dressed as ...
World Book Day had arrived and the theme this year was 'Magic and Mystery'. The costumes were magnificent, everyone was smiling and the conversations around books and characters was lovely to hear. We engaged in a variety of activities and shared books with themes of magic, spells and potions. We used text to inspire writing and art.
Here are some of the books that we enjoyed on World Book Day.
Room on the Broom, By Julian Donaldson
Spells, By Emily Gravett
Harry Potter, By JK Rowling
Dr. Seuss stories
The day began with KS2 in the hall where they were lucky enough to meet and listen to Huw Powell. Huw is a local Children's Author who shared his writing journey with us and explored his series of books around 'Space Jackers'. The children were all spellbound listening to Huw and really enjoyed helping him create a Christ Church Space Jacker.
We were then lucky enough to have books signed by Huw and to ask him more questions about his books. We really enjoyed welcoming Huw Powell to Christ Church Primary School.
After play it was Reception and KS1's turn to go into the hall. They were spell bound as they watched 'Magic Mike' talk about how he learnt his magic from books. He performed some amazing tricks and made us laugh a lot! We really enjoyed welcoming Mike back to Christ Church and certainly created some lovely memories for both the children and adults!
To end our fantastic day we came back to school at 5.00pm in our pyjamas and onesies for a bedtime story. We were all treated to a hot chocolate and a biscuit (or two) as we listened to stories.
