Reception Food and Cultural topics

12th February 2019
Reception make lemonade

As part of the food topic reception made lemonade by squeezing lemons and mixing the fresh lemon with fizzy water and sugar. The best part was definitely the tasting! The children described the lemonade as “delicious, superb, sour, amazing and scrumptious!
Chinese New Year

On Tuesday 5th February the reception children celebrated Chinese New Year. They were taught about the celebration by three of the reception mummies. They heard a beautiful story and learnt that this year it is the year of the ‘Pig’. They were treated to traditional Chinese food, the children enjoyed prawn crackers, dumplings and spring rolls. The children made cards and worked on various craft activities to help them learn about the celebration. At the end of the afternoon they were all given a red envelope with a gold coin. This is a traditional Chinese gift given at new year. The red colour symbolises good luck and happiness.

The children had such an informative afternoon and really enjoyed the activities.

Thank you to the three mummies that helped.
Reception and ICT

In Reception we have been learning to use a mouse and learning about keeping safe on the internet. We enjoyed visiting the ICT suite and using the Chrome Books this week.
Spiny Lobster Visit

On Tuesday the reception children had a visit from the fishmongers at the Spiny Lobster. The children learnt about fish and the different types of fish you can get. They were taught about the importance of eating fish and how it is important for our brain development and keeping healthy.

The children saw a mackerel, plaice and bream. They were also very excited to see a live crab and lobster. The children found it very funny when the crab went back into the box and was making the box actually move!

The children learnt lots on Tuesday and we were very grateful to the Spiny Lobster for coming and sharing the fish and facts with us.
A Doctor visits Reception

To help with our learning on keeping healthy and healthy bodies we had a visit from Dr Rowell. We enjoyed learning about all the ways doctors check our bodies when we are unwell. We listened to our heartbeats and found our pulses. We compared a healthy and unhealthy diet and talked about what happens to our bodies when our diet is too unhealthy. We compared diets and found Everywhere Bear had a healthy diet and Bunny had an unhealthy diet and was unwell because he had an unhealthy diet.

We really enjoyed listening to Dr Rowell and finding out about the different instruments Doctors use and what different instruments are used for.
