E Safety evening

11th November 2015

E Safety evening 11th November 2015

We targeted all sections of our school community with our e-Safety focus day on 11th November 2015.

Alan Earl, from Child  Exploitation and Online Protection (CEOPS) was our visitor and advisor. Alan has decades of experience in the filed of e-safety and digital literacy, and is seconded to the South west Grid for Learning (SWGfL).

Our upper key stage two children were guided in their use of social media in an informative and interactive way in the afternoon, carefully considering their digital footprint. After school, it was the turn of our teachers who were put through their paces, testing their knowledge of WhatsApp, Instagram, Viber, Vine and Snapchat, to name but a few.

In the evening, there was a well supported and well received parents' presentation. Alan is an engaging speaker who suggests practical solutions to real-life parental issues. Equally important was his message that digital technology is an amazing and incredible part of our lives, and that dialogue with young people is far more effective in promoting safe habits that other more reactionary measures.
